J VL - 5 IS - 1 SE - Research Paper DO - 10.46480/esj.5.1.77 UR - https://journals.gdeon.org/index.php/esj/article/view/77 AB - Natural-based cutting fluids represent a good alternative as a reference to replace petroleum-based cutting fluids due to several factors such as biodegradability, good lubricating properties and low production costs.  In order to determine their physical and biodegradability conditions, tests were developed to predict how long it will delay their degradation in the environment. A study of the chemical-physical and biodegradability properties of a cutting fluid obtained from pine nut oil (Jatropha Curcas) is carried out for later use in the machining process. The percentage of degradation is analyzed by evaluating the measurements of the BOD / COD ratio taken at different times. The proposed cutting fluid shows favorable physicochemical properties to be used in machining operations. The tests carried out showed that the fluid is highly biodegradable considering the BOD / COD ratio, with a value of 64.8% at 21 days ER -
