Use of efficient microorganisms for purification of organic pollutants in urban wastewater
Abstract
An alternative applicable to wastewater treatment is bioremediation, which consists of the efficient integration of microorganisms in the water to be treated; These act as cleansing agents due to their ability to assimilate pollutants through metabolic processes and use these as nutrients. In this research, microorganisms were captured from areas rich in diversity and suitable climatic conditions; For its identification, techniques such as Gram staining were used, then, for its massive reproduction, a bioreactor was built and at the same time the urban wastewater from the residential complexes was treated. In the identification of the microorganisms, two strains of Gram-positive bacteria were obtained, which were used to purify the wastewater discharged into the Pita and Santa Cecilia rivers, respectively, with an important pollutant load of pH, COD, BOD5, and sedimentable solids, which were: for strain 01 - garden, efficiency percentages of 13.33%; 67.96%; 54.62% respectively; for the strain 01 - Pululahua the efficiency percentages were 9.33%; 69.15%; 62.52% and 48.14% for the same parameters. The results obtained suggest a potential for biodegradation with these Gram-positive microorganisms.
