Impact of Covid 19 on Ecuadorian tour guides

Abstract

The tourist activity is so complex that it necessarily requires different actors, who adjust to each need and situation, an example of this are the tourist guides, who with the exercise of their work achieve that order is present within the tourist activity.  The profession of the Tourist Guide has been practiced for more than two centuries; this article reviews the background, and the impacts that this COVID 19 pandemic has generated on tourist guides. The objective of the document is to analyze the perspective of professionals in Ecuador with respect to this problem.

A descriptive and exploratory research was used: in a first phase the study focuses on a descriptive analysis of the reality of the tourist guide sector in Ecuador in the face of COVID 19. A second phase in the quantitative work considering as a technique the online survey. Given the complexity of the problem of the pandemic at a global and national level, one of the most affected sectors is the tourist guide sector, which needs to join efforts to survive and then implement recovery strategies in the guiding activity.
